Show Notes
In this episode, we start off with lots of great listener mail covering Nvidia's GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics card and SLI, future technology that makes us giddy, and our favorite freeware. Asus and Creative dominate the tech news section, and in the tech topics, we go from the fastest hard drives to mobile processor technology.
Send in listener mail and we'll answer on the podcast. - jdrake@techreport.com
Listener Mail:
Is GX2 the new SLI? (0:02:11) - from Deren (Malebolgia on the forums):
"I plan on using Nvidia SLI graphic cards for my next Gaming rig (3 months or less). This will be my first gaming pc using any kind of SLI technology. My question is; is the Nvidia's GX2 technology going to be replacing the older 8800GT card setup that's common today. If so how long should I hold for better performance from the GX2?"
What technology has us giddy? (0:07:59) - From Cliff (Hoser on the forums)
"What technology do you think will have the biggest impact in computers in the next 5 years. Will it be SSD technology, single card dual GPU technology, or something else? Also, what kind of computer technology do you really look forward to reading new information about? New motherboards & chipsets, new processors & die shrinks, higher aureal density on HDD platters, new gadgets for the USB header in your system? What technology gets you all giddy like a school girl. ;-)
Freeware (0:16:25) - From Garret
"I think it would be really cool to have a podcast based completely on Freeware or at least have a section on it. It still shocks me how many people think they have to pay for AntiVirus, Firewalls and the like."
Staff freeware picks:
Cyril (0:17:25) - InfraRecorder (CD/DVD burner)
Scott (0:19:13) - CDXP (another CD/DVD burner)
Geoff (0:20:26) - VirtualDub (basic video editor)
Jordan (0:21:08) - Audacity (audio editor)
