Inside the box
Shuttle crams a whole lot of expansion room into not very much space, but smart design keeps the interior of the system reasonably clean. A one-piece aluminum shell covers the top and sides of the SV24. Pull it off, and the rest looks like this:


The SV24 chassis is actually relatively tidy inside

As you can see, there's a single 60mm fan at the rear of the case for cooling. There's also an almost-silent little fan inside the power supply unit. Beyond that, only the CPU fan generates noise.


The FV24 motherboard packs in the standard stuff plus extra I/O chips

One thing you don't see in the pictures above is the hard disk drive tray, which slides in through the rear of the unit, like so:


This slide-out tray hosts any standard 3.5" hard drive


Once in the tray, the hard drive fits in very snug

As you can see, the IDE connectors at the back of the drive are a very tight fit. I had to bend the ribbon cable so it came straight up off the back of the drive in order to make it fit.
