Memory performance
First we'll look at synthetic memory bandwidth, to see how the Pentium 4 benefits from the faster bus and DDR333 memory.

To no one's surprise, the 850E system and its higher bandwidth RDRAM take the prize here. The SiS 645 edges out the P4X333, as well. Still, the P4X333 basically ties the 850 system, which until DDR333 was unthinkable for a DDR setup. It's obvious that the Pentium 4 loves the added bandwidth of a 533MHz bus, regardless of what type of memory it's accessing.

Business Winstone
Now we'll see how the P4X333 handles office applications. Obviously, our test configurations are a bit much for typing a letter to mom. Will the business apps show any differences between the configurations?

The answer is yes, and it's not terribly pretty for the P4X333, which ends up at the bottom of the pack. Still, it's doubtful that you would find the speed lacking if you used the P4X333 for business apps, so these results probably aren't as important as those to come.

Content Creation Winstone
Content Creation Winstone uses more intensive apps than its business counterpart, with software like Photoshop and Premiere pushing the machine pretty hard.

The P4X333 manages to beat the Athlon, but given CCWS 2002's apparent predilection for the Pentium 4, that's not saying much. The close finish between the 850, the SiS and the 850E seems to indicate that bus or memory bandwidth isn't very important to the CCWS test. Perhaps something else, such as hard drive access, is holding the P4X333 back.
