CPU/MOBO upgrade? – from Hilton:
“I’m replacing my x58 1366 board and cpu. I have everything else, the two 5850 cards, ect. I paid $350.00 for an i7 930 and an msi x58 pro-e combo in 2010. I’m thinking two hundred bucks ought to get me something better. Any ideas?”
AFR? – from Cannonaire:
“AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering) seems broken to me from a latency standpoint. Even when two GPUs are rendering a solid 60fps, you are getting the latency of 30fps because it still takes twice as long for each GPU to deliver a frame to your screen. I know that other methods for teaming GPUs are more complicated and rarely yield the kind of improvements you see from AFR benchmarks, but considering latency, is AFR just an easy method for increasing benchmark scores without actually improving the response time over that of a single GPU?”
