Last week, The Inquirer reported that AMD was planning some major price cuts throughout its Socket AM2 line of processors. DigiTimes has now echoed those rumors and added a little extra detail in the process. Where The Inq only gave numbers for the Athlon 64 line, DigiTimes adds that Athlon 64 X2 and Sempron lines are expected to drop by 25-50% and 10-15%, respectively. The site says the cuts will result in the Athlon 64 X2 3800+ being slashed from its current $287 down to just $152-161. The $152-161 range is expected to coincide with the late July pricing for a 3.4 GHz Intel Pentium D 945, which leaked roadmaps posted by HKEPC suggest will cost just $163. These same roadmaps set Intel's price cuts for July 23, but DigiTimes claims AMD will slash Athlon 64 prices as early as mid-June. Athlon 64 X2 and Sempron cuts aren't expected until July 24, though.
Update: DailyTech has managed to grab a roadmap with AMD's upcoming price list for a number of Athlon 64 X2, Athlon 64, and Sempron chips. The roadmap does show some massive drops, with the Athlon 64 X2 4200+ reportedly due to sink from $365 to $240, for instance. Matching up those prices against leaked pricing for Intel's expected July 23 Core 2 Duo launch, and we get something like this:
