AMD announces its first 65nm processors

The rumors were true: AMD has officially launched its first batch of processors built on 65nm process technology. The new chips are part of the Athlon 64 X2 line and fill gaps in the existing 90nm lineup, which was stripped of chips with 1MB of cache per core earlier this year. AMD's new 65nm chips are as follows:

Regarding availability, AMD is being somewhat vague. The company's 65nm FAQ claims immediate availability, but then it goes on to say that "[the new processors] are now available and shipping to OEM and system builder customers. OEMS offering systems immediately and in Q1 of 2007 based on the 65nm AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processors include leading OEMs including Dell and HP, as well as more than 40 leading system builders worldwide." This statement, like AMD's press release, makes no mention of retail availability.
