Cheaper G80 derivative coming in March?

Nvidia's family of DirectX 10 graphics processors will expand early next year, according to The Inquirer. The site says a G80 derivative known as G84 will debut in late March or early April next year. This chip will have fewer stream processors and likely a less cyclopean die size than the G80 found on Nvidia's new GeForce 8800-series graphics cards. G84-based cards will launch in the mid-range segment, possibly with price tags as low as $199-249.

On the other side of the fence, The Inq says ATI won't have a mid-range DirectX 10 card ready in the same time frame. Recent rumors suggest the red team's R600 GPU is being prepped for a launch on January 20, 2007.
