ATI R600 close to production silicon
New details have emerged on ATI's upcoming R600 graphics chips. According to DailyTech, the high-end R600 will begin production next month and ship shortly after the CeBIT convention in mid-March. The chip will have a unified shader design, support GDDR3 and GDDR4 memory, and is apparently one spin away from production silicon. Interestingly, though, ATI appears to be holding clock speeds close to its chest. Those won't be confirmed until just a few weeks before launch.
If the R600 is a little rich for your blood, mainstream R610 and R630 parts look to be scheduled for a summer release. Nvidia is also expected to introduce mainstream DirectX 10-compatible graphics parts before the summer.
