DailyTech tracks payola in hardware review sites
DailyTech has just published the results of its investigation into payola at hardware review websites. The article is the product of a three-month effort in which DailyTech employees posed as marketing representatives for faux hardware companies and sought articles and awards in exchange for advertising money. The article doesn't finger any specific sites for corruption, but it does offer some statistics. The most telling number: 20% of the sites they contacted agreed to some form of payola. Ugh.
You'll find a nice quotation in the article from Adam Eiberger, TR's own sales guy, as he explains our policy on the issue to the DailyTech reporter who is posing as a marketing rep.
