AMD cuts processor prices

As expected, AMD has applied a round of price cuts to its processor lineup. The cuts cover Athlon 64 FX, Athlon 64 X2, Athlon 64, and Sempron processors and are in many cases quite drastic. Here's the list of cuts for the dual-core models:

The entire Athlon 64 X2 line has now slipped under the $200 mark, with half of it priced at less than $100. AMD hasn't dropped prices this low since the late Athlon XP days—and back then, Intel didn't really have anything worthy to compete against AMD in the sub-$100 segment. Things are quite different now, with Core-based Pentium E2140 and E2160 chips selling for $86.99 and $95.99 on Newegg, respectively. Intel's turn to cut prices comes later this month.
