Earlier this month, a French website started a rumor about Intel having postponed the launch of its 45nm Core 2 Quad processors due to an erratum. The chips were originally expected on January 20, but the rumor suggested they'd been pushed back until late February or early March.
Almost two weeks have passed since then, and now DigiTimes has jumped on the bandwagon by posting a similar rumor. Citing sources at motherboard manufacturers as it often does, DigiTimes echoes the new February-March time frame for the launch of 45nm Core 2 Quads. However, the Taiwanese website names a very different reason for their postponement. Supposedly, Intel believes launching 45nm processors too early could hurt sales of its existing 65nm chips, and it has "decided it is in no rush to release new products until AMD is able to present more of a threat."
Three chips are said to have been postponed: the Core 2 Quad Q9300, Q9450, and Q9550. Based on information that leaked out earlier this year, the three chips will be clocked at 2.5GHz, 2.66GHz, and 2.83GHz and their prices will be $266, $316, and $530, respectively.
