Unlike Intel's Core 2 Duo, the new Turion Ultra processors in AMD's Puma platform don't seem to have made their way into ultra-light, MacBook Air-style laptops. However, AMD still has its eyes set on that market. The people at GottaBeMobile have snapped a photo from an AMD presentation that says the chipmaker is aiming Shrike, its next-gen mobile platform, at "Ultra-portables & <1" thin notebooks."
AMD talked about Shrike late last year at its Financial Analyst Day. The platform will feature Swift, a 45nm chip that will mix CPU cores with a graphics processor, as well as a next-generation mobile south bridge and optional next-gen discrete graphics. Presumably, because Swift won't require an extra north-bridge chip with graphics functionality, laptop makers will be able to stick the CPU/GPU hybrid into tighter enclosures.
The slide includes a few other details, such as a mention of six-hour battery life with Windows Vista. The processor's integrated graphics core will support DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort display connections, as well.
