Just over a month after releasing its first bare-bones notebook system, OCZ Technology is back with a 17-inch "whitebook" based on Intel's Centrino 2 mobile platform.
The new OCZNBIM17A Gaming Notebook features a 1900x1200 17" display, and it apparently includes a choice of Intel GM47, GM45, and PM45 Express chipsets. OCZ sells the machine with AMD "M88XT CrossFire"—presumably Mobility Radeon HD 3870 CrossFire—graphics pre-installed, as well as 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, a two-megapixel camera, a fingerprint reader, and a 12-cell battery.
Once they receive the system, users will need to supply their own processor, memory, and storage. The OCZNBIM17A can accommodate 45nm mobile Core 2 processors (including the 3.06GHz Core 2 Extreme X9100), as much as 4GB of DDR3-1066 memory, and a 2.5" Serial ATA hard drive. Thanks to the system's MXM 2.0 graphics slots, OCZ mentions that users system builders can also trade the Radeon graphics for a single GeForce 8800M GTX from Nvidia.
As with its other whitebook, OCZ provides an illustrated how-to guide (PDF) on its website for new adopters. The firm mentions a list of validated components to make shopping for parts easier, too, although we couldn't find a link to it on the OCZNBIM17A product page.
Update: OCZ has pulled the product page, and it now says the notebook will be available only to system integrators.
