These past four quarters have been kind to Microsoft. The company has posted revenue of $15.84 billion for its fourth fiscal quarter, which ended on June 30, giving it total revenue of $60.42 billion for the past fiscal year. Quarterly and yearly revenue were both up 18% compared to the previous year.
Substantial revenue wouldn't be much without equally meaty profits, and Microsoft has done well in that department, too. The company had $5.68 billion operating income and $4.3 billion net income in Q4FY'08, compared to $3.99 billion operating and $3.06 billion net a year before. That puts net income at $17.68 billion for the latest fiscal year, a 26% year-over-year increase.
Microsoft credits demand for Windows Vista, Office 2007, its server software, Xbox 360 consoles, and Xbox 360 games for the strong results. The company points out that it has sold a whopping 180 million Vista licenses since the operating system's launch. Considering Vista broke the 100-million mark in early January, that means sales have picked up quite a bit.
Looking forward, Microsoft expects revenue to hit $14.7-14.9 billion next quarter, which would imply a tamer rise of 7-8% compared to the same time last year. Operating income should stay largely flat at around $6 billion.
