Deal of the week: 640GB at 13 cents per gigabyte

Western Digital's Caviar SE16 640GB just keeps going down in price. This hard drive cost around $130 when we reviewed it back in March, and it progressively dipped to $99.99, then $94.99, and finally $89.99 around a month ago.

Today, Newegg sells the drive for an eye-popping $84.99 with free three-day shipping. That puts the cost of each gigabyte at around 13 cents, which is prodigiously low for such a recent and capable product.

The 640GB SE16's high platter density allows it to balance excellent performance, low power consumption, and very low noise levels. In fact, this drive did so well in our tests that we gave it our Editor's Choice award.
