Far Cry 2 goes gold just a week ahead of release

Good news, first-person-shooter lovers: only a year and three months after Ubisoft first revealed Far Cry 2 to the masses, Shacknews reports that the game has gone gold. Good thing, too, because it's supposed to hit stores in PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 flavors just a week from now.

As we've already pointed out, Far Cry and Crysis developer Crytek had nothing to do with this title. Instead, Ubisoft Montreal has developed the title, trading its German counterpart's trademark tropical island locale for the African savannah.

Since Ubisoft is also targeting consoles, Far Cry 2 should turn out to be a little less demanding from a hardware perspective. The official system requirements recommend an Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon X2 5200+ CPU, an Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS or AMD Radeon X1900 graphics card with 512MB of memory, and 2GB of system RAM—not exactly a high-powered gaming rig by today's standards.
