Windows Vista Service Pack 2 may not be out until May or June, according to a new report by TechARP. As we previously related, the site said in December that a "confidential source" expected the service pack to go gold in April. Well, the latest word is that Microsoft has postponed the first SP2 release candidate by a month.
The new roadmap pins the first SP2 release candidate in March, with an RC "escrow build" to come out the month before. Release to manufacturing should follow in the nebulous "Q2, 2009" time frame, which likely means May or June, as TechARP points out. Don't count on being able to download the service pack straight away, either—the roadmap says "TBA" in the date column for "Release To Web."
Microsoft revealed the contents of Vista SP2 in October last year. The upcoming service pack will improve upon Vista's search and Wi-Fi configuration features, and it will add support for Bluetooth 2.1, Blu-ray disc burning, and exFAT. Expect the usual collection of previously released security and stability fixes, too.
