New Corsair SSD stores 256GB, costs $669

If you're shopping for a fast, high-capacity solid-state drive, good news: there's yet another option to choose from. Corsair has introduced the P256, a 2.5-inch SSD with a 256GB capacity, nice performance ratings, and a sub-$700 price tag.

In Corsair's words, the P256 (a.k.a. CMFSSD-256GBG2D) features "specially selected Samsung MLC flash memory and a sophisticated Samsung Controller IC, coupled with 128MB of super-fast cache memory and Native Command Queuing (NCQ) support for blistering, stutter-free performance."

Translation: transfer speeds should top out at 220MB/s for reads and 200MB/s for writes. Corsair's press release doesn't specify sustained speeds, though.

Otherwise, the drive carries a two-year warranty, and it's already available at several e-tailers in North America. Newegg carries it for $669 with free shipping in the U.S., while NCIX offers it for $780 CAD north of the border. That's around $40 (or $76 CAD) more expensive than Intel's 160GB X25-M.
