Recent reports have suggested AMD has dual-core Phenom IIs as well as quad-, triple-, and dual-core Athlon II processors up its sleeve, but word about these CPUs' launch schedules has been pretty vague so far. However, DigiTimes has learned of more specific launch time frames from its sources in the motherboard industry.
According to DigiTimes, AMD will introduce both dual-core Phenom II X2 500-series and Athlon II X2 200-series processors in June. The chipmaker will reportedly follow up with quad-core Athlon II X4 600-series and triple-core Athlon II X3 400-series products in September. If previous stories are any indication, the Athlon II brand will apply only to CPUs with no L3 cache.
In the period between June and September, DigiTimes goes on to say we can also expect 95W quad-core Phenom IIs (including a new version of the 2.8GHz Phenom II X4 945) as well as another 10 low-power Phenom IIs and Athlon IIs. We've already heard about those—they should include quad- and triple-core models with both 65W and 45W power envelopes.
As DigiTimes points out, some of AMD's quad-core Phenom IIs may soon face off against Lynnfield, Intel's cheaper quad-core Nehalem derivative. The site's sources expect Lynnfield CPUs to show up in the third quarter, and they quote the same $196-562 price range that leaked in April.
