What, did you expect Asus' netbook team to go on vacation early? Nonsense. They've been keeping busy with the launch of the Eee PC 1005HA, a new 10-inch system that has a thinner profile, less weight, and a longer-lasting battery than its forebears.
Looking at the 1005HA's spec sheet might feel like déjà vu, because it's almost the same as that of the older 1000HE. A 10.1" 1024x600 display is accompanied by an Atom N280, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 160GB 5,400-RPM hard drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and Windows XP Home Edition. What's changed?
According to the big Eee PC comparison list, Asus has gone from a 62Wh battery to a 63Wh battery in the best configuration. As a result, top rated battery life has gone up from 9.5 hours on the 1000HE to a staggering 10.5 hours on the 1005HA. Asus also quotes a weight of 2.8 lbs (down from 3.2 lbs) and a thickness of 1.01-1.42" (down from 1.12-1.49").
Oh, and being part of the "Seashell" series, the Eee PC 1005HA also features a redesigned enclosure. See the gallery below for photos.
Both Crystal Black and Royal Blue flavors of the Eee PC 1000HA are already available for pre-order, and they'll set you back $389.99 at Newegg—almost exactly the same price as the 1000HE.
