Let's say you realize after a few months that you should've sprung for a pricier edition of Windows 7. Or say you need to upgrade several PCs in your household, and you'd rather not buy a full license for each one. What can you look forward to? Microsoft doesn't seem to have announced anything yet, but ZDNet's Ed Bott has come upon online listings for Family Pack and Anytime Upgrade versions of the upcoming OS.
Attributing the information to "careless online retailers"—namely PC Mall and two smaller outlets—Bott quotes prices in the following ranges:
- Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade: $81.95-89.99
- Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional upgrade: $90.95-99.99
- Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade: $137.95-153.99
As for the Family Pack, Bott found such a product ("WINDOWS 7 FAMILY PACK/ HOME PREMIUM UPGRADE") listed for $136.95 at one of the small outlets. According to a previous report of his, that pack will contain licenses for up to three computers per household.
