CloudBook maker Everex bails on U.S. market
by Scott Wasson — 10:37 AM on July 16, 2009

A short report at PCMag.com notes that Everex, maker of the CloudBook and other low-cost systems, many based on Via processors and the Linux OS, has ceased operations in the U.S. The main source for the report appears to be Everex's own web site, which simply says, "Everex US is now closed."

Everex made machines that looked and felt a lot like netbooks before the term "netbook" was even coined, and early last year, the CloudBook was even on the shelves in Wal-Mart stores. Evidently the firm didn't fare well in the face of competition from bigger players like Acer and Asus. Thanks to TR reader Neutronbeam for the tip.
