Beta GeForce drivers offer new power management scheme
Word comes from techPowerUp that Nvidia has released a new set of beta drivers for its GeForce and Ion GPUs. Available for download on nZone, this latest 190.38 release can be had in 32-bit and x64 flavors for Windows 7, Vista, and XP.
In addition to adding support for OpenGL 3.1 and CUDA 2.3, these latest beta drivers introduce an intriguing per-application power management feature for GeForce 9 and later cards. This power management scheme apparently lets users set a "performance level" for DirectX and OpenGL applications, which presumably means you can tweak clock speeds on an app-by-app basis. That appears to be the extent of new features in this release, which also includes a selection of bug fixes.
