Intel confused a few folks earlier this year with the Pentium E6300, a processor with different specs but the same model number as the old Core 2 Duo E6300. Well, according to Fudzilla, Intel will strike a second time on January 17 with the Pentium E6600—again, no relation to the Core 2 Duo that used to go by that model number.
The E6600 will reportedly run at 3.06GHz with the same two 45-nm Penryn cores, 2MB of shared L2 cache, and 1066MHz front-side bus as the E6300. Fudzilla adds that Intel will price the newcomer at $84, which will push the 2.93GHz Pentium E6500 down to just $74.
Wait a minute, though; isn't Intel also supposed to roll out its first 32-nm Clarkdale dual-core CPUs in early January? In a separate report, Fudzilla says the slowest (and cheapest) member of the Clarkdale family to come out on January 3 will set you back $113. However, Intel will eventually follow up with a slower model priced at $87.
