Windows 7 run out of Moorestown, heads down Oak Trail

AnandTech has learned that Intel's Moorestown platform won't be capable of running Windows. Moorestown powers the Atom Z600 series that targets smartphones and tablets. MeeGo Linux and Google's Android OS are already supported by the platform, but Windows won't work due to Moorestown's lack of a PCI bus.

The newly announced Oak Trail Atom platform will reportedly add PCI connectivity by combining Moorestown's Lincroft system-on-chip with a Whitney Point Platform Controller Hub (PCH). AnandTech says this new PCH expands on Moorestown's existing Langwell PCH, adding Serial ATA connectivity, HDMI output, and an HD audio interface. Oak Trail should arrive in the first quarter of 2011.
