VIA's P4X333 chipset
533 + 333 = Mmmmm
— 12:25 AM on May 15, 2002

Last September we looked at VIA's P4X266 chipset, which drew the ire (and attorneys) of Intel and became the first Pentium 4 chipset to support DDR memory. At that point it would have been difficult to imagine that today we would be reviewing VIA's third foray into the Pentium 4 chipset market, yet here we are.

The VIA P4X333 incorporates support for Pentium 4 processors with a 533MHz front side bus, as well as support for DDR333 memory. In addition to these obvious enhancements, the P4X333 has a raft of other new features and improvements. But will these new additions be enough to take on the 850E and other contenders in the Pentium 4 chipset market? Read on to find out.
