Broadband via the human body
News.com.au is running an interesting story on a new technology that lets data be transferred through a handshake, literally. Apparently, the human body is conductive enough to act as a data transfer medium between individuals with PDAs in their pockets.
The companies have confirmed in an experiment that data can be transmitted at 10 megabits per second, comparable to the speed of a broadband Internet connection, it said.It also appears that the technology will work between an individual and something like a doorknob, though there's no mention of whether or not you'll get a little shock in the process.
There are all sorts of places a technology like this could be useful, especially considering transfer speeds that would only require you to remain in physical contact for only a few moments. Are you ready to really go out and touch someone?
