Genetics tracks Genghis Khan
This article has to be one of the most fascinating uses of genetics I've seen yet. A big chunk of Asia's population is apparently descended from one man, and tying together genetic data with the historical record, that man is quite likely Genghis Khan. The implications of this kind of discovery are many, but I particularly liked this observation:
"More seriously, this disproves the theory of history promoted by Marx and Tolstoy that says only social forces matter, not individuals," Cochran claimed.
