Intel cuts Pentium M prices
by Geoff Gasior — 12:21 PM on October 6, 2003

Intel is slashing prices for its mobile Pentium M processors. The Pentium M 1.7GHz dropped in price by 34%, the 1.6GHz chip by 31%, the 1.5GHz model by 18%, and the 1.4GHz flavor by 13%. Intel also cut the price of its Centrino bundles by up to 30%.

Because of rising component costs, Intel's price cuts may not dramatically lower the total cost of Pentium M-based laptops. Still, the cuts should help Intel keep the Pentium M attractive against AMD's notebook line and Apple's revamped PowerBooks.
