ATI says it's the choice for PCI-E graphics

Before the PCI Express hardware all debuted, ATI whispered to us that it would be the dominant choice for PCI Express graphics cards for the big PC makers of the world—just wait and see. Just now, a press release landed in my inbox, still spinning, from the PR types over there. The release includes a lengthy list of PC makers who will be using Radeon graphics cards for their PCI Express systems. Among them: Dell, eMachines, Gateway, IBM, NEC, Sony, Acer, Fujitsu-Siemens, Packard Bell, ABS, Alienware, Falcon Northwest, and VoodooPC. There are more, but you get the idea. ATI's approach to this new round of products—little risk on the graphics front with pixel shaders and the like, but lots of investment in native PCI Express—seems crafted to appeal to the Dells of the world, and it seems to be working. We'll have to see how NVIDIA fares, as well.

Update: NVIDIA's list of design wins for PCI Express graphics is online here. (Thanks, Mike.) The list so far is devoid of top-tier PC vendors like Dell. However, uber-high-end PC makers such as Alienware, Falcon Northwest, and VoodooPC are apparently sourcing PCI-E cards from both ATI and NVIDIA, as one might expect.
