Nintendo Revolution to debut at under $300

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has reportedly revealed that the Revolution game console will debut as less than $300—cheaper than either the PS3 or the Xbox 360 Core System. Nintendo hasn't revealed an exact price yet, but Ars estimates the system will debut in the $199-$250 range. Exactly when we'll see the Revolution is still anyone's guess. Launching before the PlayStation 3 might be better for marketing reasons, but not if Nintendo can't deliver the right games to make the console shine.

Judging from previous responses to our Revolution posts, I'd wager a number of potential buyers are interested in the Revolution either on its own merits or as a "me-too" purchase. If Nintendo plays its cards right, it may end up carving out a distinct market niche separate from either Microsoft or Sony—and in the process, could establish itself as a distinct brand for a new generation of console gamers.
