Intel faces decreasing revenue, market share
by Cyril Kowaliski — 3:10 PM on March 3, 2006

Intel has announced that its revenue for the first quarter of 2006 will likely fall short of expectations. Revenues for the fourth quarter of last year were $10.2 billion, but Intel has revised its expectations for the first quarter of this year from $9.1-9.7 billion to only $8.7-9.1 billion. At worst, that's a 17.2% drop from Q4 2005 to Q1 2006, compared to only a 4.3% over the same time period last year ($9.6 billion in Q4 2004 to $9.2 billion in Q1 2005). RPC Capital Markets analyst Apjit Walia claims that the lower revenue expectations reflect lower demand for Intel products and the company's resultant market share losses to AMD.
