Santa Rosa to come in 2007, shrink boot times
Intel's next-generation "Santa Rosa" Centrino platform is coming in mid-2007 according to Taiwan notebook manufacturers familiar with Intel's roadmaps. The new platform will feature Intel's Robson cache technology, which relies on NAND flash memory rather than the hard drive to load the operating system and often-used programs. This technology will reduce boot times and could increase battery life by up to 30 minutes. The Santa Rosa platform will also feature a Merom processor based on Intel's new architecture, and support the new 802.11n Wi-Fi standard that allows up to 540Mbps transfer speeds.
