HD-DVD players, titles hit stores

Reuters is reporting that the first HD-DVD players and titles have shipped. Toshiba's HD-A1 HD-DVD player is available at some Best Buy stores, and should hit "select Sears, Wal-Mart, Costco and Tweeters locations" by the end of this week. Serenity, The Last Samurai, and The Phantom of the Opera are the first titles to come available, with other movies, including Doom, Jarhead, and The Bourne Supremacy to follow on April 25, May 9, and May 23, respectively. Shoppers may have a hard time finding the new players and movies, though; Toshiba's initial shipment reportedly totals only 10,000 players, and studios have supplied fewer than 10,000 copies of each of the three launch titles. Still, some users at the AVS Forum have already gotten their hands on HD-A1 players, which seem to be available at Best Buy for $499. Thanks to Ars and DailyTech for the links.
