Wrong on all four.

For the record, the max temperature swing in Alaska is 180F (+100F on the hot side, -80F on the cold side).

Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. The reason? Continental climate and they are the northmost states with such a climate. Granted, Minnesota experiences the weakest influence due to the Great Lakes, but most of their influence goes further east due to how winds work in North America. Wyoming and Idaho get honorable mentions as well.

I'm going to go ahead and give answers!

Spoiler tags for people who still want to guess! Here is my source (clicking will spoil!)

Alaska's range from highest historical to lowest historical is 180F. Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, and Utah exceed this 180F threshold:

Montana: 187F
Utah: 186F
Wyoming: 181F
North Dakota: 181F

I suspect that part of this range has to due with big, flat land areas that can get hot paired with mountains, as Utah sticks out as the southermost state of the bunch. Minnesota has no mountains to speak of, so it's range is 175F.

North Dakota makes perfect sense as it is so central to North America. Water air systems tend to soften the temperature swings, but ND would be subject to none of them. South Dakota might also apply, but being slightly more south (and still not having mountains), it only boasts a swing of 178F.

California can boast the honorable mention with 179F.

I used the Wiki page, which did not include Wyoming (178F there).
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

That it did. However, the source (NOAA max and min tables) listed the lowest temp as -66F, though the table said -63F, explaining the 3F difference. Full disclosure, I edited the Wikipedia page to reflect what the source said.

EDIT: also weird to note that NOAA has an updated list of temperatures. At least a couple made it into Wiki's tables, despite the source being through 2003.

I had to drive down to southern Indiana (from Michigan) Tuesday, just as the frigid air started coming in, and that was not fun at all with sections of freeway covered in black ice, and me driving an unweighted pickup. For a while trying to get through Indianapolis I was traveling like this:
Image

Decided instead of trying to make the return trip the same day, I'd pop into a hotel for the night and try to fight the ice when I can actually see it. Next morning after my truck that had been sitting out in the -7F wind all night and I that all too familiar *rur rur...rur.....rur* trying to start it.

It started no problem, but it was obvious the battery was not happy.

Shouldn't this thread be called "How cold are you RIGHT NOW?".

That's my favorite song of the Van Hagar era. I thought that it was more suited for Sammy Haggar's vocals than the OU812 material that I saw live.

Our low temperatures dropped into the mid-teens with single-digit wind chill along the gulf coast this week. This prompted my co-worker to exclaim that this was two years in a row that we'd had cold weather. "If having winter is going to become a regular thing around here, I'm going to need to buy more clothes!"

Most of OU812 feels like it was written for Dave, like they planned to have Sammy just for 5150 and Dave would come crawling back to them or something. And then Cabo Wabo, which is definitely Sammy's thing, and a decent song.

That looks like a killer show. Clearly they didn't charge enough for the food.
