Hi. Yeah, I know what you mean. It's a strange one. Usually many disablilties have nothing but hinderences on a person, I'm not saying Aspergous doesn't, however, it does mean that a person with this has a very high intelligence level, usually higher than average. We also have very very good memories, to the extent if you move a pen in a room full of stationary I'd be able to tell you which one and what postition it was orginally in. We also devolop obsessions, and tend to know a lot about them. Mine are obviously computers, which fortunately I've managed to develope this into a career, and my others are planes, cars, and choppers (Helicopters). We are very sensitive to change and don't usually like it either, which can sometimes prove to be a problem as you grow up, for instance leaving school, as the daily routine changes somewhat, which we like to keep to. Early devlopment such as speech is usually a problem, heck, I couldn't talk until the age of 4! It's usually a general rule for people with this condition, it's very hard to teach us something new, and is usually a long process, but once learned we're usually better at it than the next person. Other aspects of this condition is interpreting other peoples emotions and expressions, plus we find it very hard to build relationships as a general, as well as girlfriends, etc. I usually end up upsetting people simply because I can't interprit body language and expressions, I've overcome this problem to an extent, but I've had many fallouts and misunderstanding because of it, and still do now and then. A consultant explanied to my parents when I was 15 years old (I'm 17 now) that my mental development in the case of social and relations, is around 2 years younger than my actual age, but my inteligence level is 2 years advanced of my actual age. So basically I had the mind of a 13 year old but the intelligence level of an A level college student. In the past I used to be really widthdraw and quiet until about the age of 12ish, but now, I'm still very shy, but my social life is somewhat at a high at the minute I reckon, and I have many many friends. Anyway, that's about all I can say I think at the minute. Any questions, just ask away.

Patto, this kid on Richard n Judy (I'm really not joking, he can't be more than 12, if that!) had developed all sorts of workarounds for the social skills thing.

e.g. When he was talking to someone, he'd find that looking at them normally would make him nervous, so instead he'd focus on the bridge of their nose, to give the illusion that he's looking at them normally. Something I do a lot as it happens :-S

Do you have any workarounds like that?

Hi. Ok, sorry, I was slightly mistaken. I was sticking up for you that's all, but the guys here understand now.

....Oh yeah, another thing guys, Colette is well know for attension seeking sometimes. Your doing mi head in Col with this fat thing.....your NOT FAT! How many times have me and you gone through this? The reason your a little bigger than you was last year is because your getting a womanly shape, your boobs are bigger and your hips have developed, but there sure isn't no excess fat on you!

I can't say I do or did, I think I've just developed more as I've got older and learned to interprit peoples emotions better. I don't think people made/make me feel nervous when they talked/talk to me, it was really just ths misinterpritation.

I know a guy at college who has Asperger's. He knows scary amounts of history (his subject) off by heart, and his obsession is war - he will frequently start reenacting battles, on his own, complete with sound-effects, somewhat startling anyone in the vicinity who doesn't know him... One of my friends (though not diagnosed AFAIK) shows a lot of the signs too. Reading pattouk2001's post was weirdly familiar...

(A random coincidence, the aforementioned friend is also dyspraxic...)

Hi BigMadDrongo. Dypraxia does have Aspergous characteristic, but they two conditions do have their differences. Dyprxia doesn't come with the obsessive behaviour and photographic memory for example.

Rule #5685 of Soap-Operas:

Every Soap Opera must contain the following line:
"You slept with him, you was my best friend.

HOW COULD YOU, YOU BITCH!"

Hey, YBK, my cousin Kevin lives in Australia too. Do you know him? :P

I wasn't suggesting there was a link or similarity between the two - I know some details about both and AFAIK they're quite different conditions fundamentally. I just thought it was a random coincidence.
