SyFy to adapt Dan Simmons 'Hyperion' for TV

Thu Jul 23, 2015 8:42 pm

I heard Dan Simmons being interviewed on NPR about this. This guy is very talented. Most of his books are really good. He crosses genres with ease. In the interview, he opined that nobody was asking him how to do the adaptation and that he thought they were trying for too much detail and maybe missing the most important part of the story line. Its been a long time since I read those books.

Hyperion is a singularly fantastic book. It's well-crafted sci-fi crossed with The Canterbury Tales. He masterfully weaves so many threads together in such a brilliant way. And I really like the unique way he twisted Catholicism.

I though the sequel to Hyperion was fair. And the following books following Raul were pretty good, just entirely different.

Hyperion and the Fall of Hyperion, together, are my favourite book EVER! Until I got all bummed out about classic sci-fi and got addicted to Haruki Murakami.

So this is pretty awesome news if it happens! =D

Oh maybe they'll feature Siri with Apple's Siri voice.

SyFy??

I can't imagine any way in which they will produce a proper treatment of The Hyperion Cantos. Like Dune, it's just too vast to be squeezed onto the screen.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Did you watch the SyFy Dune mini-series? I thought it wasn't too bad, though it could have used more production budget for the visuals.

Now playing on SyFy (at least on my chunk of the Comcast system):

Dinocroc vs. Supergator

And they think they can do credit to The Hyperion Cantos??
