Maybe not RIGHT NOW, but this morning I was listening to "GEIN - Skin Suit Sessions 3" (downloadable from SoundCloud from the artists' page here: http://soundcloud.com/abelgein.)

8)

It is hardly the pinnacle of artistic expression but that is okay sometimes! I love D&B - the meaner the better.

For the $30 investment, these 6 CD's (out of 56 if yer crazy hard-core!) are some of the best classical music selections i have ever heard in my life:

It has woken me up to some opera-style music i thought i would never be into... massive stuff here peeps!

Hmm... looks like there's enough stuff on there I don't already have that it might be worthwhile, just to get an idea of what other sorts of things I might want to acquire. Most of the classical in my collection is Beethoven (my favorite classical composer by far!) and Bach, with a smattering of others (some Tchaikovsky, Mozart, and Dvorak). My coverage of other composers is pretty thin.

Seriously doubt I'd ever get into opera though. The closest I get is probably the choral parts of Beethoven's 9th, and possibly some of the oddball avant-garde-Euro-jazz stuff I listen to on occasion.

I might be confusing some (if not all) of the tracks with Opera and some style of singing I'm not familiar with. Some tracks (WITH VOCALS) for example, are:

CD 1:

Track 7, Cecilia Bartoli - Le nozze di Figaro K492 (original version, vienna 1786, act 2, voi che sapete)
Track 12, Teresa Berganza - Carmen / Act 1 (l'amour est un oiseau rebelle) --- OMG I LOVE THIS TRACK! LOUD! LOUDER! (((((((((( LOUD!!!!!! )))))))))))
Track 15, Measha Brueggergosman - Sechs Lieder, Op 17 - 2 (Standchen)
Track 17, Grace Bumbry - El amor brujo (cancion del amor dolido)
Track 18, Enrico Caruso - L'Africaine / Act 4 (O Paradiso)
Track 20, Jose Carreras - Tosca / Act 3 (E lucevan le stelle)

meh... I don't fell like going thru 6 cd's worth of music at 3am... Maybe later... But I enjoy the ladies singing WAY more then the men. Men suck at singing.

Yeah, those are excerpts from various famous operas.

I think we might've had a thread about female singers (in general, not opera) a long while back. The turn this thread has taken prompted me to put on the first October Project album... Mary Fahl FTW. Been too long since I listened to this CD in its entirety. Sure, it's "just" pop; but very well-crafted pop it is... and ohh... that voice!

I'd forgotten what a great album Cheap Trick's "Heaven Tonight" is. Probably haven't listened to the whole thing in years... rectifying that oversight now while I crank out some C code.

I acquired one of her CD's that cover's pink floyd's "the dark side of the moon":

Seems like that CD is a MAJOR collector's item now.. Sells for $30 - $300! WOW!

I have yet to listen to it, we'll see how I like/dislike this artist.

Very nice, very nice indeed. I tend to be a bit pickier and selective, but I mostly listen to :wumpscut:, IAMX, Oomph!, Combichrist, Noisuf-X, Skinny Puppy, Suicide Commando, De/Vision, KMFDM, Seabound, Neurotichfish, Zweifelhaft, Hackmesser, and Xp8. Used to listen to a lot of Rammstein and Laibach, but not so much anymore. I tend now towards the electronic side, industrial / darkwave / ebm.

Now... if you like :wumpscut:, you'll LOVE these artists/albums:

Noisex - Out of Order (1996)
B-TON-K - SemiHum@nBeing (1998)
F/A/V - Freude Am Verzweifeln (2002)

If you like Skinny Puppy, you'll LOVE these:

ohGr - Welt (2001)
ohGr - unDeveloped (2011)

Other HIGHLY recommended artist/albums you MUST get at all costs as if your life depended on it:

Rotersand - Truth is Fanatic (2003)
Rotersand - Welcome To Goodbye (2005)
Rotersand - Random Is Resistance (2009)

Aesthetic Perfection - Close To Human (2005)
Aesthetic Perfection - A Violent Emotion (2008)

Die Form - Vicious Circles: The Best of Die Form (1996)

P.A.L. - Signum (1995)

Battery - nv (1995)

Hanzel Und Gretyl - Ausgeflippt (1995)
Hanzel Und Gretyl - Transmissions From Uranus (1997)

Also... I can NOT find any discography on these 2 artists you listed:

Zweifelhaft. The only thing I found was a remix on Diezel Xzaust's song, "Death Certificate" in 2011.

Hackmesser. Nothing. No remixes, no singles, no albums. Was this perhaps spelled incorrectly?

I'll check out a bunch of those you recommended. I am a big fan of only one Rotersand song, "Gothic Paradise." I've tried to listen to more, but it didn't click well with me. Some of the artists I already know I like casually listening to, but I think I need to check more into Aesthetic Perfection. I'm sure I heard them on one of my internet radios and really liked it, but never went looking around.

These two are Russian underground in origin, so it's very possible their albums are very difficult to obtain. I was lucky, the bands distribute free mp3s via some of my industrial music livejournal communities a couple years back. You can find a lot of their songs on youtube, if anything.

Here are their MySpace pages at least:

Grabbed a copy of Mary Fahl's (former lead singer of October Project) "From The Dark Side Of The Moon" yesterday as an Amazon MP3 download and I'm on my third listen now. It's a track-by-track cover of the classic Pink Floyd album. My opinion of recorded (studio) covers tends to be "don't bother unless you've got a new twist to put on the original," and Fahl succeeds. It's quirky, and at times darker/creepier than the Floyd version. Fahl's powerful voice is (as expected) the centerpiece; some parts which were played on guitar or keyboards on the original are even replaced with wordless vocals.

Interesting Just Brew It...

I'm listening to the new Yes album (Fly From Here). I've been very hesitant about this one, but I must say that I've been very pleasantly surprised. Some parts are very Drama-ish, and that's understandable considering where the Fly From Here suite first started, the players and and the producer of the album, but to me that's very good because Drama is an excellent (and under-appreciated) album.

I know many people dislike the fact they changed their lead singer, and I can understand that (I will not debate this here), but I'm more of an open-mind type. So that's why I overcame my hesitation and went forward with this one.
