SUN - Something Unto Nothing
One of my favorite female blues-rock vocalists (Sass Jordan) in a harder-edged setting. Not sure how I missed this when it was released (it has been out for a few years).
OK, so it feels a little bit calculated at times, and there's way too much dynamic range compression -- damnit, let the music breathe a little! -- but this is still some pretty good stuff.
Captain Ned alert... I know you're a Sass Jordan fan!
Edit: The engineering on Sass' breakthrough album "Racine" (over 2 decade ago!) was far superior. Jeez, let the loudness wars go. Use your damn ears, and don't crush the life out of the music. THIS REALLY PISSES ME OFF!
Edit 2: Don't get me wrong... I'm loving this on first listen. But I'd love it even more if the recording engineer had a clue. Help me Steven Wilson, you're my only hope.
Edit 3: Unfortunately, this release is obscure enough that we'll never see a remaster with someone at the helm who has a clue...
