Maybe in the original sessions but in nothing that made it to the final vinyl, according to this cite:

Both songs that I quite like and not with the schmaltz factor of stuff like "Billy", "Shannon", and "Seasons". It's the schmaltz I'm looking for.

EDIT: From my aforementioned blog comment thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUVZsu36SW4

That's what I mean by schmaltz.

EDIT 2: The other "supernatural horse" song I was remembering was The Byrds - "Chestnut Mare".

American Pie has been forever ruined for me by Weird Al's parody version, wherein he turns the song into a synopsis of the entire plot of Star Wars Episode I. I can't hear the original any more without the Weird Al version playing in my head. The chorus:
Weird Al wrote:
My, my this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Saying "Soon, I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi."
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Don McLean has stated for the record that he often finds himself inserting the Weird Al chorus when he performs American Pie. Just confirms the genius of Weird Al.

OMG!!! As an old fan of LoA (and ToN), I am also enjoying these finds! Thank you dizik!!!

Personally, I consider that a feature. Most of the topical material in the Weird Al version has a far longer shelf life than the topical material in the original.

Now, is it an accomplishment when you can sing along with "All About the Pentiums" without missing a word, or is it merely the geek version of brain damage? Still working on "White and Nerdy" although I've picked up most of it.

It's only damage if it made you forget something else. Of course, if you forgot it, you wouldn't know you forgot it, 'cuz you don't remember it. So yes, brain damage. :)

All this Weird Al talk has convinced me to go put on Albuquerque, which will probably make me want to watch some Breaking Bad again.

I've been listening to Weird Al since the late-night AM radio Doctor Demento shows of the late 1970s. His skill at parody is clear to see by all. His originals get ignored by the vast majority of those who purchased Weird Al content, but those people don't know what they're missing.

Albuquerque reminds me of an original from one of his early albums, "Gotta Boogie".

Same. While I was a kid, I still very much enjoyed all of his shows (Dr Demento).

Recently turned onto Brown Bird by the person behind The Less than Epic Adventures of TJ & Amal. Specifically the track Fingers to the Bone, though the whole album is good. That track is available free from that link, btw.

On an inexplicable Bonnie Raitt kick lately. Also all the bluesy and toned-down jazz tracks from Cowbow Bebop for probably the thousandth time. Road to the West and Goodnight Julia, especially. God, Yoko Kanno.

Oh yes. I was a wee pup when "Fat" came out, and I'm pretty sure I heard that (also "Eat It") before the originals. And I don't think I've ever actually heard more than a few seconds of "Gangster's Paradise", but boy do I love singing to myself about my plain wife and strange hat. :D

I think it's very telling that there haven't been many musical parodists that approach his body of work or success. Nowadays if there's ever any song parody that gets out there, it stands a good chance of being attributed to Weird Al.

His originals get ignored by the vast majority of those who purchased Weird Al content, but those people don't know what they're missing.

Nature Trail To Hell, Dare To Be Stupid, Trigger Happy, The Night Santa Went Crazy... I think I like his originals more than I do the parodies, and I do like me some of those parodies.

5 songs on an album is a lot for Yes. I'm biased though, as I have them all. It's the classic lineup, so go for it.

Especially when you consider that one of them is *still* over 15 minutes long!

I would not rank it among my favorite Yes albums, but it is definitely worth having if you're a fan of the classic lineup. I probably haven't listened to it in a year or more; I'm putting it on my MP3 player now so I can given it a spin on the way to work this AM.

Edit: This isn't really the "true" classic Yes lineup, at least not in my book. Alan White is certainly a solid drummer, but he's no Bruford. Which reminds me, I really need to order a copy of the Tony Levin / David Torn / Alan White CD before it goes out of print!

Edit 2: CD order placed. I've got high hopes for this, given how great Cloud About Mercury was. Kind of amusing that Levin and Torn have subbed Alan White for Bill Bruford in their later lineup, just like Yes did!

Pink Floyd's Animals only had 5 songs; 4 if you consider Pigs On The Wing Parts I and II to be one song.

Levin Torn White - Levin Torn White (CD) 2011
David Torn - Cloud About Mercury (CD) 1987

...and this one for the helluva it:

Yes - Going for the One (CD) 1977

You probably won't care much for Cloud About Mercury then! David Torn is a bit "out there" at times, and Bruford has always been a jazzer at heart. That's what I love about his drumming on the earlier Yes albums -- there's just a little "something extra" there rhythmically, that your garden variety rock drummer (or even your totally awesome rock drummer, like say... Mike Portnoy) can't match.

And that also comes through in the 1976 Genesis ROIOs while he filled in most of the drumming while Phil learned how to be the frontman. Hell, on that note alone even his eventual (and final) tour replacement, Chester Thompson (ex-Mothers of Invention), comes across as jazz-centered.
