I finally got around to hooking up a pair of recently acquired Triad Gold PowerSub subwoofers to the stereo I use in my hobby room. I think I'm going to have to relisten to my entire music collection. I just can't believe how wonderful these subs sound. They're quick and tuneful sealed boxes and they blend perfectly with my Infinity Kappa 6 speakers. The Kappas can go fairly low on their own, especially with the bass knob at +2 on the amp. For years--no,
decades--I believed that I was listening to the best of best & that my slightly bass-boosted Kappas didn't need the help of some audio-colouring subwoofer. Man, was I wrong!
So with the "new" Triads crossed in at 60Hz, bass knob on the Kenwood smack dab in the middle, and the system properly tweaked, I organized a quick playlist and just let it play nice and loud last Saturday:

The increased 20-60Hz performance is just oh so groovy! In fact, it's kind of addictive. After work today I spent far too much time in there listening to song after favorite song, grinning from ear to ear. I even played a few of my old records and tapes just for fun. They too sounded great with the added bass, but digital (FLAC) music and FM radio seemed to benefit the most. One of the first things I noticed after switching over to my trusty Akai tuner was how full and weighty station jingles sounded with the increased LF response. I was
feeling some of those sound effects from across the room!
So what am I listening to RIGHT NOW on this system?
Mary Black - Vanities from her excellent album No Frontiers. I could just stay in here forever.
