The same sounds I hear all weekend if the weather's nice, namely the 2-stroke serenade of dirt bikes in the sand pit 1/2 mile behind my house.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Save Yourself by a band called Stabbing Westward

I had my head under a rock when this sort of music was at the top of the charts.

I'm of the opinion that Stabbing Westward didn't get the recognition that they deserved. Their first three albums Ungod, Wither Blister Burn & Peel, and Darkest Days were great examples of dark and brooding music with great guitar work and keyboards. Some say that Christopher Hall's woe is me lyrics are too repetitive, if not a stalker's manifesto, but they fit the style of music really well. They broke up after their, relatively speaking, terrible fourth album came out and their have been rumors of a reunion recently.

In related news, I've been listening to Dead Letter Circus a lot recently. I saw them live a few weeks ago when they opened for Animals as Leaders, and the entire concert was amazing.

Big by Dead Letter Circus

These videos look like they were all inspired by the demoscene. DLC has an interesting sound.

I'm glad you like them. If you have a moment, you should listen to "Here We Divide" and "The Space on the Wall". Hell...you should listen to the entire album. I'm pretty sure you can find uploads of the songs all over YouTube. Perhaps you'll be better off just buying the alubm, I just can't recommend these guys enough. Each song on the album is worthy of a single, in my opinion.

Also, you might want to check out Karnivool, another great Australian band.

Heya dizik!

I wasn't previously aware of that band (DLC) and listened to their cd in full - good stuff!

If yer a fan of Australian bands, the best resource ever is Triple J which puts out the "hottest/best of..." compilations annually, amongst other collections showcasing some incredible Aussie bands!

The site for reference is at: http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/alltime/11/

Over the many years they've been releasing those Triple J series, I have been exposed to SO many awesome groups! I almost wonder if DLC was included on any of those, I'll have to check!

Turns out the plug on the end of the cord of my replacement power brick for the speakers on my home desktop wasn't quite right, and wouldn't mate with the power jack on the speakers. But that's what I saved the old dead power brick for -- just in case I needed to cut the plug off and splice it onto the new power brick!

Computer speakers are back up and running now, and I'm listening to Djam Karet's A Night For Baku while I get caught up on some stuff for work.

So awesome to hear the voice of almost 3 decades of work to turn up in 2011. Go Gary!

Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto

The reason I've chosen to listen to this particular piece of music right now is a little strange. A few minutes ago I went down to the basement to get a snack out of the vending machine. While I was buying my bag of jalapeno Cheetos, a snippet of Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto popped into my head. Then, on the way back up to my office, it started playing in the elevator! :o

Kinda creeped me out.

Now I've gotta listen to the whole thing... and no, I'm not doing it by sitting in the elevator for 35 minutes!

I need some good non-standard/non-top40 reggae suggestions (ie: I have enough Bob Marley, and the rest of the top 100 reggae songs of all time to last me forever, but alas I am bored of the top 100 crap).

I've listened to their older album (in 2009) called Rise... It's like pirate music combined with heavy metal. Interesting indeed, but still a novelty in the end.

Bon Jovi -- Dead or Alive

Watching the live version from various concerts over the years, and they all sound great.

Skin and Wire, by Piano Circus & Bill Bruford.

Bruford is one of my favorite drummers of all time. This album may be his swan song, as he announced his retirement around the time it was released a couple of years ago.

While not pure reggae, try Xavier Rudd.

To Let (2002)
Solace (2004)
Food In The Belly (2005)
White Moth (2007)
Dark Shades Of Blue (2008)
Koonyum Sun (2010)

My favorite is probably Food in the Belly. Koonyum Sun seems more reggae to me than his other work, so you might like that one better.

BWV 847. I do love the fugue section; it's one of my very favorite pieces of music.

Johnny Nash: "I Can See Clearly Now."

After this, maybe Pablo Cruise and "Ocean Breeze."

EDIT: Turns out I haven't put Pablo Cruise's masterwork onto this PC, so I followed up instead with Ronnie Jordan's "After Hours."

Since the latter tune often sends me off to dreamland, I'll say goodnight now....

Y'know... Bach's WTC has been (until now) one of the glaring omissions in my music collection. That is now being remedied (Amazon MP3 download).

For the Bach fans here, I just stumbled upon this site: http://www.blockmrecords.org/bach/index.htm

Free (legal) downloads of all of Bach's organ music, courtesy of the University of Michigan School of Music.
