Peets Major Dickason's Blend made in a 4-cup stovetop espresso coffee maker thing. I may have had a little too much red wine last night with Bioshock Infinite. Wow. So. Ouch.

Cold-brew coffee, made using Cory Doctorow's method from one of the Little Brother books

I've been cold-brewing for a good while now; screw that caffeine-reduction regimen I was on! I'd just been using a plastic pitcher, a metal strainer and a 10-dollar Melitta pour-over coffeemaker (just a carafe with a plastic cone filter-holder on it). Worked out fine, but then a kindly acquaintance sent me a Takeya jobby ($25) and it's now all I use for cold-brewing. I haven't done the nut bag (heh) routine Doctorow recommends but I figure the Takeya is less work.

I'm using a cup of coffee per 3 or 4 cups water and then (usually) mixing the concentrate 1:1 or 1:2 for consumption. I just got a cheapo tub of Folgers to see if it's any good cold-brewed; if it is I'll get a giant vat of it and save my good beans for hot-brewing. I figure even if it's not that great Folgers will work for iced coffee (which has to be nearly half full-fat milk to be worthwhile, I find).

---

On a less buzzy note, I was recently introduced to Stash pinhead gunpowder green tea by my dad. Smells remarkably sweet and tastes sweet too if you don't use too much and/or brew too long. Plus it's kinda neat to watch the little rolled-up leaf-pellets unfurl. Now I have something to throw into the rotation of honeybush / rooibos / Earl Grey. Twinings Earl Grey, of course.

Home brewed pale ale. It is a single-hop ale, which I brewed specifically to try out a new hop variety, Belma.

Delirium Tremens. I heard that the USA vs Belgium losing team has to drink a beer from the winning country. Much obliged.

A huge mug of instant coffee. Before I'm cast out like a heathen, it is high-end instant: http://www.kenco.co.uk/range/kenco-millicano/millicano-sunlight-blend/870. No sugar. Semi-skimmed milk. I've no idea what people in North America call semi-skimmed. You guys don't know even know what milk is.

Unless you've drank milk from a bulk tank at a dairy farm...neither do you. Back on topic: We have (in increasing order of "thickness") skim/ 1% / 2% / whole milk / half and half / and whipping cream. I'd imagine semi-skim would be analogous to 1% in North America.

I'm enjoying a delicious Arnold Palmer at the moment (half lemonade half tea). One of my favorite non-alcoholic summertime drinks!

Johnny Appleseed. Pretty good as ciders go. Cleaner, less beery tasting than the real one's like Woodchuck or Strongbow.

From the past few days:

Last nights wine (except from 2010, not 2012): King Family Vineyards Meritage 2010. Honestly, probably the best red I've had. Fruity, peppery, and extremely smooth.
This afternoon's wine (except from 2012, not 2013): King Family Vineyards 2012. Enjoyable, especially for a Chardonnay, but not nearly as good as the last night's red.
Several days ago: A selection from West Berkshire Brewery. The Tommy Atkins Traditional Ale was probably my favorite, but all were quite excellent.

A Banana Bread Beer and a Levitation Ale. The latter tasted suspiciously like an IPA, with strong grapefruit flavors.

This thread clearly needs at least one September post.

I got some Barr's ginger beer and have been making Dark 'N' Stormies, but I was gifted some copper mugs (people think I'm a drunkard, and they're not far off) so I've been making vessel-appropriate Moscow Mules, too. Yay for highballs.

I have some Koval Oat Whisky here, and their new Gin is coming out next month. I think I'll be getting it. I'd probably get it just for the bottle.

As far as seasonal beer goes: this year's Ten Fidy has been out since August. It's all I need. Imperial Stout is good.

Oh goodness yes. Had New Holland Dragon's Milk a week ago. It was an experience I'd like to repeat, but at $7/10oz. on tap it's a bit pricey.

Last night found me drinking Southern Tier Pumking Ale. Very pumpkin-y and spicy, with a heavy note of vanilla as well. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I know I've said it in this thread before but you should REALLY try Southern Tier - Crème Brulee. Legen...wait for it...dary

I just bought a 4-pack of Lakefront Brewery - Imperial Pumpkin that I drank camping on Friday. 9.5% ABV. Good times ensued!!

Aventinus! I should probably tend towards cheaper beers, but at $4 a bottle, and two glasses out of the bottle, it's still less expensive than a bar!

Cider fans, if you're in VA (or NC, or MD) I highly recommend Bold Rock cider. The Virginia Apple is a bit drier than the Virginia Draft, but both are excellent and extremely drinkable...

I'll have to keep an eye out for it. We just got a Beers of the World, and I may have to suffer their bad service, as they have 75 different beers on tap and rotate fairly often. I had a gose there a few weeks ago and am looking forward to this summer, as I plan on consuming many more then.

In the meantime, any suggestions for a good (and affordable) weizenboch or hefeweizen? Aventinus is great, but I'm looking for a bit more of an every day beer.

Best Porter I've ever drunk and the whisky barrel aged versions are very nice too if a little expensive.

I'll take a sip but once the number of extra flavors exceeds 1, I tend to back away. Most of the beers that came home with me from BBQ were in the multi-flavor category and it's taking time to work through them. Well-made; just not my style. Horses for courses.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.
