White Lantern. My first impressions were that it was very foamy and that the taste was inferior to Blue Moon or Hoegaarden. Adding a tangerine segment to my mug improved it considerably.

Strawberry Harvest Lager. It tastes like strawberry soda with a slight beer aftertaste.

Great Divide Colette

Billed as a Saison (Belgian Farmhouse) style ale. The aroma was a little off (sulfury) when first poured, but this dissipated after a couple of minutes. Not a bad Saison; nice mix of spicy yeast and fruity character. But the initial aroma was somewhat off-putting.

English Teatime.

P.S.: NeelyCam, you use [ url=address ] text to display [ /url ], eliminating the spaces next to the brackets.

I took my dive into the world of high end rum today. I picked up a bottle of Rhum Barbancourt 8 year and British Navy Pusser's Rum.

The Barnacourt 8 year starts off very sweet. Sweeter than Courvoisier V.S., but without the velvety body of the congac. The finish has more than a twinge of the rum aftertaste I loathe about cheaper rum, but it's excusable given the balance that the sweetness provides. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the bottle to see if it grows on me more.

The smell of Pusser's is much stronger than the Barbancourt. Its taste changes as it flows from the glass and over my tongue. My palette is not good enough to tease out each flavor, but there's easily two or three big ones that stand out, one changing to the other until the rum is swallowed, and I can tell there are more. I don't have the vocabulary to describe them yet. The Pusser's aftertaste lingers soft and mellow; the countryside resting after a storm, while rumbles of thunder fade into the distance.

I love the dark candy flavor of bourbon; the sophisticated, ancient flavors of single malt scotch are a pleasure to behold; a smooth sip of congac relaxes the nerves and eases the soul; and rum? I'm hesitant to categorize all rums by the example Pusser's sets, but it's a thing of wonder that is as complex and sophisticated as it is bold and direct.

Last night some Laphroaig Quarter Cask. It's noticeably sweeter than standard Laphroiag 10 and generally less medicinal. Not sure if I like it was well as 10 but it's an interesting expression nonetheless.

I give Coors some credit for being willing to mess around with stuff like this, but in general I'm not a huge fan of the Blue Moon beers. The Belgian White is passable, but too sweet. IIRC that's been my complaint with most of their stuff.

I'm currently drinking Diet Mt. Dew.

Later we're meeting some friends down in the city at this place. Then going to see this. Yes, serious "WTF?" on the second one. Should be fun.

Short Straw. It's much better than the berry thing (which, admittedly, was better than the nasty Leinenkugel berry things).

P.S.: I'm following that up with an Agave Nectar Ale. While the flavor is unique, I wonder if they're trying too hard to be different rather than just trying to make a great beer. I prefer the Short Straw red to this effort.

Sweet Water IPA. It's more lemony than their 420 IPA.

Cheap swill beer (Labatts' Blue) to get the dust and grass clippings out of the mouth after finishing the lawn. Still need to weed-whack but simply can't muster the GaS at the moment.

Mello Yello, 12 ounce can.

I swore it was called Mellow Yellow a few years ago but it seems Coke has lost the W's at its can and box manufacturing plants.

Don't ever remember the W on the packaging.

It didn't have a "W" on the end when Cole Trickle had the logo on his #51 in 1990.
