May you live in interesting times.

That said, you're already there. Stay nimble and agile and assume the worst from everyone.

Job search don't fail me now...I'm somehow in charge of setting several statewide policies and no matter what I do I'm going to piss people off  Either that or the policies woudl be so weak as to be irrelevant and thus not fix the concerns...

Ugh. Have to work on Friday. This 4 day/week man is quite used to not working on Friday (3rd time in 16 years). It's also a 3:30PM engagement. Those who understand the regulatory business know what that means.

I would enjoy a 10hr/4day schedule... I wouldn't take Fridays off, though. 3 day weekends are nice, but having a free day on Wednesday always worked out well for me.

Sure hope things work out. We were bought out about two years ago. A lot of our contracts are headed over to the sister company now though. I'm still busy enough, but there is a lot of people looking lost and who are running out of things to do. It's a bummer. I don't think place is going to be around much longer.

Hope your buy out leads to added strength to the company.

Did anyone else have a chance to view Jupiter tonight? I tried to get some pictures, but an 18-55mm not-overly-sharp kit lens doesn't work out too well for that. Also, cheap filters can be annoying, but they're cheap, so I can't complain too much.

Sort of in the same frame, any photography people have luck mounting M42 lenses on Canon DSLR's? If so, any brands of glass to specifically look for? Its documented on the Internet that it can be done and adapters are sold, so I'm thinking I may do that to pick up a few different primes. I think I can live without AF, and I've read good things about Takumar, as well as seen some beautiful photos, so I'm hoping I'll be able to find a few lenses in my price range of $20 or less, including shipping.

Great. I get to spend tomorrow morning teaching basic financial institution accounting and funds flow to a couple of newbie FBI types. I sure hope they're quick learners.

lol have fun Ned. Better you than me. I think I've been in maybe half a dozen local news stories over the year sin my job and talking to the media always makes me scared ****. So, you gotta testify before a jury for this mess?

On a semi-related note: our CEO juwst left unexpectedly. We were supposed to keepq uiet till our interim told the press (and he just found out yesterday) but it's arleady leaked and yes I'd like to know who!

I don't know if this means good or bad. I like our interim guy though. He's fun, and a lot mroe sane.

on arelated note, I've had a lot to drink and still cant'just sleep liek I wnt to.

It'll start with the Federal Grand Jury to get an indictment (Fifth Amendment prohibits Federal criminal charges unless they come from a Grand Jury). That's easy as it's not an adversarial process, it's simply me telling my story to the US Attorney and a group of citizens who then decide if there's enough evidence of a crime to lay formal criminal charges. If an indictment comes down and the person in question doesn't plead out, I'll then testify in the criminal trial. Done it before and it's pretty simple.

As for media contact, I just say "no comment" and "go find my boss".

I've been in the local news a couple times being on the school board. Always (mis)quoting my comments in open session. Whenever they try to talk to me directly, I point them at the board president.

That's the approach I settled on :) More often than not I give my boss the talking points, but at least it means I'm not talking to the cameras. Thank heavens.

500

500 anime series, that's the number i figured when i started watching anime. 500 anime series and you can consider yourself a legitimate otaku. You need them for experience. To develop leather skin (against Jappanese crazyness). So i got started. But ofc along the way you stop thinking about being an otaku and all that. It stopps being the point. You get past the sillyness of it all. But then, after, you realize that's what you are.

I'll tell you learn a lot of things on the way to 500, none more important than this:

So, with windows 8 coming out...and it being an older model...I got an Acer Aspire One-725 for 175 dollars. It's in the nursery so my wife can listen to music while feeding Samuel every 3 hours. We'd debated a tablet but this was so much less, and well, for these uses...

It isn't high end but it works OK for that. About 30 minutes to decrap it (die MacAfee, DIE). I figure I can also probably stream video through Prime. I may upgrade the speakers marginally because, wow, that thing sounds awful...but I'm not sure my wife cares at all. I'm also not sure why they paired 4 gigs of ram to a 1 gig dual core CPU but eh, whatever.

My "new" home office phone. Still trying to find the right mask for the number card in the center of the dial.

Image

A Western Electric Model 500 complete with a proper mechanical bell ringer, and better sound quality than any other hard-wired phone I've had in the house (the TrimLine Touch-Tone is now a backup). The 15YO daughter thinks this to be but one more bit of evidence that her father is irretrievably insane.

For those who are wondering about the lack of pushbuttons. In the infinite wisdom of the FCC and earlier telecoms regulatory bodies here in the US there is a simple rule. If it was ever able to access the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), it must be able to do so in perpetuity.

As if your daughter needed any more evidence. I've always wondered if there are anymore operators still alive. Maybe you could dial them to see.
