I thought the mindset was always purchase a pistol made in the USA. Do gun stores even sell CZ-75's brand new? I would be a very inexperienced used gun buyer.

I like American made 1911s, but there are plenty of good foreign made guns that aren't 1911s. Gun stores absolutely sell CZ-75s brand new. They aren't as common as Glocks, but they're out there, especially at the bigger shops.

You should probably go to a range where you can shoot rental guns and get an idea of what you like, though. Dropping hundreds of bucks on something only to find you don't like it kinda sucks.

Seems you got lucky.

Starting straight off with .44 Mag loads or easing into it with .44 Spl?

If you want a good quality America-made 1911, there are better choices than a Les Baer (which are great guns, but tend to be made to such tight tolerances that they're very finicky).

Kimber, if you want a good, high quality upper middle gun. Wilson Combat if you want an excellent high-end gun.

None of those really fits into your price range, however.

What's the price range again? Ruger SR1911s are under $700. Colts can be had for under $900.

Or, you can get an Auto-Ordnance 1911A1 for under $500. It won't win any beauty contests, but it'll shoot.

I guess I enjoy the .45 --- although I admit I have not tried 9mm ammo yet on any pistol.

Oh no, so many choices! It wouldn't kill you to do a little research and see which features fit your needs and price point. ;)

Alternatively, you could just buy a Glock like everyone else.

From the February 2014 issue of Shooting Times -

"seven basic, full-size, affordable 1911s" (best bang for your buck) - http://www.shootingtimes.com/2014/03/26 ... -shootout/

For the folks a couple pages back who were looking for a good junior and adult training rifle. Race gun features, Ruger quality / durability, and street prices well under $300. I own four 22 cal. bolt action rifles including a junior Marlin and I really really want one of these. - http://www.shootingtimes.com/2014/01/10 ... re-review/

That Ruger .22 is nice!

At a $900 cut-off, I don't know that I would classify those 1911's as "affordable." Sure I am a cheap bastard, but even Cabelas (I consider an expensive place to shop) has some in the $600 range, and buds starts right around $400. Here is a Budget Roundup of 1911's for consideration. :D

Remington also makes a nice, affordable 1911 with a match grade barrel. Price is under $600. I've been tempted to pick one up for a while. American made. No Filipino sweatshop labor, no lousy Taurus quality control, and you aren't funding a frenemy nation like Turkey either. Norincos haven't been available new since the 1990s, they never should have made that list.

The Armscor guns are indeed good guns for the money. I'd buy one over one of the Turkish jobs for sure, were those my only two choices.

Yep, maybe too good. And the ones I had missed from the end of 2013 which led to a reread of several others and quite a bit of research. Now the want list has three new items - a mo-bettah AK (until now 7.62x39 was "eh, maybe"), a Swedish / Danish 9mm Husky, and an 1895 or 96 Mauser in 7x57. Maybe the stupid high prices will help get me off my dead a** and find some decent income. Or at least out to some local shops and shows.

Anyone need a brand new in the box set of RCBS (I think) small base 30.06 dies? I've pretty much given up on a reasonably priced Garand and even if I were able to get a class three license it probably wouldn't cover a BAR.

I think the monkey in the image is over-qualified to work for Century Arms. Maybe the name reflects their belief that, after a century, the monkey will be able to make a good firearm. :-?

Here's my James River Armory AKM built on a 1968 Polish parts kit. I really like this rifle. Anyone who says AK-47s are inaccurate, hasn't shot a good one IMO. It's no tack driver, true...but I'll take 2.5" groups at 100 yards with open sights all day long.

main battle rifles aren't meant to be precision rifles anyway are they? I mean, minute of opponent at 200 yards is sufficient4 right?

Yes, and the AK isn't even a battle rifle; it's an assault rifle. Some battle rifles won't do much better than 2-3 MOA.

I've read alot on the all-knowing internet about AKs hitting adjacent targets on the range...it's either a poor build or operator error IMO.

That's the worn-out service M1911A1 at 100 yds.
