The Persian Mauser and the Suomi sound interesting to me.

I would love to read your take on any of them, but from a personal interrest I certainly wouldn't mind the following - Mosin-Nagant(Finn m39), SKS, M9 Pistol, M16a1, AK-47.

Colt Commando it is.

Speaking of the 1903a3, I recently had mine rebarreled with an original unissued USGI 2 groove barrel. Damn thing shoots better than I do now at 100 yards.

Just got back from range, a great day! (pics to come)

I wanted to try a revolver, their loaner .357 was DOA, so low and behold, I rented a nice 6" S&W 629.

Yeah, jeebus that thing kicks, but once I got used to it, not so bad. My CZ felt like a .22 after firing that cannon!

I also bought an M&P 22, shot 100 rounds or so through it... wow, crazy fun. Only came with one mag though, kinda sucky.

good, full sized, big bore revolvers are a blast to shoot, figuratively and literally. Guns are on hold again--shoulder surgery, pregnancy, possibility of a move, etc--but I *will* have either a .357 or a .44 magnum some day with a 4-5.5" barrel and a six shot cylinder. But in the meantime, once my shoulder heals, I plan to try to take another handgun course and maybe get some centerfire rifle instruction. I figure spending a hundred to two hundred on ammo and instruction will net me a lot more skill increase than just blazing away

Are you guys down south seeing an ammo shortage?

My range only has some expensive SK .22, $68 for 500, no .357

Luckily I found a box of Winchester .22 at Canadian Tire for $32, and local hunting store seems to have good stock of Winchester bulk .22 (17.99 for box of 222)

I've been going through a ton of ammo with the M&P 22, its a ton of fun, and got the kids to shoot too.. my son's hands are way too small, but my oldest daughter shot some nice groups with the .22. My middle daughter did too, and she tried a couple rounds of 147gr on my CZ, and 1 shot of .38 special on a 686 6" I rented... she prefers the lighter .22 lol.

My next purchase will be a revolver, probably a Ruger, 200$ cheaper than a S&W, and I won't notice any difference at my skill level I am sure.. black 6" GP100 should be very nice.

For R&P reasons that have little bearing on reality there's been a lot of panic buying of guns & ammo for the past six-ish years. .22LR is one caliber that's hard to find here for that reason.

Not really, even .22LR is an easy find. However, my LGS still limit 1 box per caliber per day. Its been that way for well over two years. While I dont have a problem with this it is at times inconvenient. But the Eastman's gun shows make up for that there is no lack of bulk selling at ok prices. Not great prices like before but ok.

I see all kinds of ammo on the shelves here, and all of it is overpriced. I'm so glad I reload every cartridge I shoot. Too bad powder is ridiculous these days too. LGS want $30-33 for a pound of powder. That's almost double what it was going for six years ago. Rifle powder is in abundance, pistol powder is scarce. Fortunately I have a few pounds on hand still that will last me a while.

I bought 3 boxes of Winchester bulk .22, $23.99CDN for 333, so I am sitting on almost 2000 rds, should last me a bit.. now to get my new M&P 22 fixed, rolled pin that goes through slide to hold firing pin is loose!

Smith and Wesson has a lifetime warranty IIRC. And they usually have quick turnaround time. Call them or email them and get it fixed. :)

Don't tease us like that. $65 USD (after conversion) for 1,000 rounds will have the smugglers out in force.

It's been a while since I've purchased ammo for my guns, but from what I've heard, things are better now with supply. The hardest to get is .22LR and it's still pricey compared to a few years ago. Everything else costs more, but you can at least get it as opposed to 2012. I'm not sure how bad the hoarding still is, but it seems to have slacked off finally. People are no longer cleaning out stores the moment the truck unloads the pallets like they were. I wonder, when the ammo makers finally catch up, if there will actually be a glut of ammo and prices will drop considerably. I'd like to stock up the ammo cans when that happens.
I wish I had gone to med school.

Ooh, nice.

I still remember the very first "Bond in M's office" scene when he was told to give up his .25 ACP Beretta in favor of a PPK in .32 ACP because "PPK 7.65mm with a delivery like a brick through a plate-glass window". You might be able to break a window with .32 ACP but it better be residential plate glass.

Oh, and Bond, do leave the Beretta.

Then again, this also looks like fun in an '80s, South American drug dealer wearing mirror aviator glasses sort of way. And the barrels are easily swappable.

Haven't given her a good polish yet.. S&W 686 Plus, 7" barrel. Shoots real nice, sights may be a tad off though.

Re: Gun prOn! FN Five Seven handgun

Mon Oct 13, 2014 5:01 pm

Man I just saw one of those FN Five Seven Handguns that fires the 2130+fps 5.7x28mm P-90 ammo.

With a clip in the gun and one in the chamber and 2 spare clips you have 61 rounds of Kevlar piercing badness.

I think it is a badazz handgun. what it does not have in bullet weight it mostly makes up with muzzle velocity and tumbling bullets inside the unlucky target.

You better hope it tumbles, or it's going to go a long ways downrange from target #1. Slow & heavy has its place.

If there's anything this cartridge isn't, it's not a home defense cartridge. FN has had a bitch of a time trying to create non-mil-spec ammo that won't piss off BATFE, with but minor successes.

Leave this one to SG-1 (yes, they carried P90s for the last few seasons) unless it's a range-only gun for you.

I imagine it as great accuracy at long ranges....get a powerful green laser pointer scope dialed in perfect and you/it could be very effective at long range especially at night.
I want to hear one in person to see if it sounds like a HP rifle or a handgun

Please tell me exactly how this capability comports with lawful use of firearms for home defense? I'm sure it would be great fun to plink cans at 100m with a laser spot but this has nothing to do with having to draw in your own home.

Again, if you're looking at a FiveSeven as home defense you're all wrong, not to mention dangerous. Wrong horse for the wrong course. If you really want home defense, a minimum-legal-length barrel scattergun loaded with #1 will both convince the perp to leave and won't blow through 6 walls on the way out with unknown consequences. You'll also need lots of close-range practice at the range as at home defense distances the shot train tends to remain quite coherent and the implied "scatter" doesn't really happen. Hell, at home defense ranges the wad is still dangerous.
