I know it's not a technical glitch. I juts thought it would be something worth mentioning. :)

That's why you pay Roylance the big bucks.

The one thing I kinda wanted to mentioned was this though - the thing I adore about TR is the news summaries.

Maybe a solution would be dedicated news page, which would be more similiar to current home, for us old schoolers?

This has been mentioned as on the list of things to do for several pages now.

It's already been done, sort of, this is the page everyone wants:
http://trweb2.techreport.com/archive.x?

Except when I click the more stories link it always takes me to the 16. To see the synopsis of the current day I have to click the current date on the calender.

gibson, that's why there will be a separate page that has all the news blurbs...maybe techreport.com/news?

Just a quick question: I know it's irrelevant, but will there be a change to the forums when it's eventually migrated from phpbb2 to phpbb3? New sections to look forward to, changes to existing, or are things going to remain the same?

one thought would be enabling a click on the top news stories heading on the main page and have it take you to the page the King_kilr linked.

Default would be the current day on the calender. If we need to see something else we click on that day or search for it.

See here. These will likely happen before the move to the new site and definitely before the move to phpBB3. I'd like to have it done before September.

Small suggestion: stick this script on the page while debugging: http://www.getfirebug.com/lite.html it makes work so much easier.

I know, but it seems most of the bugs have been in non firefox browsers.

Another something I noticed.

http://trweb2.techreport.com/discussions.x/10406

The smilies linked from the forums in blogs like this have odd boarders around them. Both in Opera 9 and IE 7.

EDIT: And another. :D

http://trweb2.techreport.com/discussions.x/11302

The two graphs near the bottom of the page are borked, both in the discussion page, and the the summary page (http://trweb2.techreport.com/blogs.x/swasson?page=1)
I'm not sure if that is an actualy page flaw, or if the new site broke it, as I can't seem to find that blog on the main server. :-?

EDIT2:

http://trweb2.techreport.com/blogs.x/swasson?page=1
http://trweb2.techreport.com/blogs.x/swasson?page=2

The 'Notes from ATI's Stream computing event' blog appears on page 1 as well as page 2 (pages 2, and 3 in human-speak).

I checked some more, and this happens on page 0 and 1, as well, with the 'Vista testing begins... cautiously' blog. The rest of the blog pages (by different authors) seem to share this bug.

EDIT3: I noticed Inkling's posts, both on the the test and the production server, don't have his email attached, rather the posted by line just points to "mailto:". I have seen this in the past when news people don't want their mail shared, but as Adam is the biz guy, I thought I would mention it in case it was simply overlooked.

wow!

I leave for a couple of days and come back to some fairly dramatic improvements! I really like having a couple lines per article.. it makes everything a little less "mashed together". Much nicer! :)

Efforts to lend a helping hand: I think the border is intentional on the graphs and the smiley was an unintentional consequence, on images you don't want it just put it in a seperate class and just remove the border on them.

Same thing, but I want it for Wednesdays only, every other day is the other way around

Or, you know, every 28 days should do too.

I problem I saw when I went there is that with the current site, it expands to fill my widescreen monitor, where with the new site, it just stays in the middle of my screen in both front page and forums. Plus the front page seems to be way to long, have to scroll down a lot just to see a few front page stories.

Damage said they are pretty much set on having a fixed-width page, to cator to the masses, but that there will be some love later on for wider-than-1024 people, i.e. most of the people in this forum. :D

Update on a few things:

As you guys requested, the news page is complete, thanks to Steve and Cyril working overtime to deliver a new feature late in the game. It's linked from the front page, but here's the direct URL:

http://trweb2.techreport.com/news.x

Bookmark that puppy, set your prefs to blue, and party like it's 1999!

Also, the blog paging issue should be resolved, and a number of other outstanding bugs are squashed. Some of the issues you guys have noted are related to the process we're using to import old content into the new tools. Those things should be sorted out during the conversion.

Thanks to those of you have been helping with testing. Much appreciated!

Quirky request: perhaps a different color for the rss buttons on the blue theme, they look out of place.

Awsome. When I first looked at the new layout I didnt really care for it but after playing with it for a few days I really like the new layout better than the old. My only real complaint was the news story thing.

Ever thought of doing a download this article as a PDF ala ARS for TR supporters ? I would pony up a few bucks for it because I could take the articles with me and read them on the job when I have no internet access.
