Re: What are you READING right now?

Last book I finished a couple months ago: I Am Legend

It's really excellent (but short!) IMHO. I can totally see it's influence on other authors like Stephen King and films like Night Of The Living Dead... I really wish the film had followed the book better then it did and made the infected less monster-like. Some say that I am Legend (the movie) is closer to the book then The Omega Man. I think it's debatable. In some ways I think the older movie catches the spirit of the book a little better. That said, I did enjoy the new version. The opening 1/3 of the movie is breathtaking.

Currently reading the first set of the DARK TOWER comics I got off ebay last year. They are really good so far (on issue 3).
I am a major bigtime fan of the Dark Tower series (until the very end anyway). Especially when tales of Roland's younger years were told (which is what the comics are all about). Very good illustrations too. I haven't bought a single comic book since I was a kid collecting GI JOE so long ago.

Next up I'm going to find out about the next set of the Dark Tower comics, procure and read them. Then perhaps I'll start in on my hardcover of SK's Duma Key.

The Narnian by Alan Jacobs.

Started this a while back and couldn't get into it. It's a literary biography that goes into dense detail on what Lewis read throughout his schooling, and how it influences him. This time I've gotten past the half-way point and am finally enjoying it.
Nations, cultures, arts, civilisations-these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub and exploit - immortal horrors or everlasting splendours. -C.S. Lewis

The Jesus Incident, By Frank Herbert and Bill Ransom. It's good sci-fi. Herbert did write some good books besides the Dune super-series. I just finished A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge. That's awesome Sci-Fi right there, even moreso if you are interested in the technological singularity.

Freakenomics. It's a very easy to understand book, despite the implications of an economics text. It reads well, too. Good book if you have the slightest interest in public policy and/or sociology.

I'm starting into Alastair Reynold's "Revelation Space" universe ATM. I've got the three linked novels and will go from there.

Watchmen!

Only 3 chapters in, but already see there's no way in hell they're going to properly encompass that in a single movie.
A most unfortunate, Freudian, double entendre is that hotel named "Budget Inn."

Pretty much. I do think the movie will be better though. There really is a lot that can and should be cut for a film.

I just read "The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger. It's the most amazing love story I've ever read. The story seems so original and imaginative, defiantly worth the read.

If you have a wife/daughter who loves to read and hasn't read this yet, it would make an excellent gift. It's my wife's favorite book.

Asimov's Guide to the Bible -- it's a secular guide, looks at history and then-modern scholarship (1970s) Just re-read The Diamond Age, and will probably read A Canticle for Liebowitz next.

Ditto that. Good book.

The Talisman by Stephen King / Peter Straub. Will read Black House next. Just a few more King novels and I'll be caught up. Of course, you can never truly be caught up with that man...

Will very likely read Watchmen again soon. That book was freaking incredible.

I have my copy sitting next to me on my desk at work. I've already lent it out to a few coworkers to prep them for the movie. :)

Seeing as how I have two young kids, I don't read often. If I do get the opportunity in the near future, then chances are that I'll re-read American Gods by Neil Gaiman.
