Meanwhile, I'm trying to find the set of ruts properly sized so that I can drive on the top of each rut and not scrape the bottom.

I suppose winter is officially over! For some reason I didn't think quite so yet.

I still have to scrape frost off my windows in the morning. :(
Winter is over for me when in the daytime I can leave the furnace off.
Central air doesn't ever come on until June.

Winter has officially begun here in Ann Arbor, Michigan. There's already a couple of inches and it's supposed to snow for the next two days. This is our first snow of the season and it's looking to be a good one.

Can't wait for a proper winter to begin here in North East... Last few weeks was a ridiculously warm weather, hopefully this will not be an indicator of upcoming winter season, otherwise my set of dedicated winter tires will continue their sad and lonely existence in a dark and damp basement storage

We had 12" of snow about a month ago. The majority melted within a couple of days. Problem was that the trees hadn't yet lost their leaves, so it took out a ton of powerlines. That being said, its been in the 60's since, but winter seems to be on its way for real this time.

Even people up north can actually be surprised how cold Florida actually feels once it dips below 50. Its not so much the degree of whether, but there is always a lot of wind and humidity that can make it feel much much colder.

That's so cute.

30 is still shorts and flip-flop weather here.

I'd like to experience that sort of cold once in my life just so I can do like the fella in Brian's Winter and have my pee freeze before it hits the ground.

I was interested to note a couple years back that one morning it was 100 degrees colder than a July afternoon that got up to 112.

No, you don't, trust me. I can see where you are coming from though, but I need a portal so I can work here and live in sunny San Diego...25 cents-and it only transports matter

Got ready to leave for work and was greeted by this:

Image

The low pressure system settled over south/central Kansas, setting up perfect conditions for an upslope storm along the Colorado front range. Snow started Thursday PM and continues now, with final tapering off expected by mid-morning on Saturday. Here by the foothills we got close to 20 inches, although it's worth noting that Colorado snows are fairly dry -- typically 10-12 inches per inch of water.

Winter? what winter? I've plowed twice, only to make sure the plow still worked. Today I was out burning brush and doing yard work I usually do in April. Normally playing in snow this time of year! Europe has stolen our winter :-(

QFT here in Vermont as well.

Double QFT in Ohio. I think we've only had maybe, what, 10 days with the high below freezing? Pathetic.

Same thing here in Idaho I think winter was canceled and nobody told us about it. We have almost no snow and it hasn't been very cold. The coldest night we have had was only 0 F. Usually by this time of year we have had a stretch of -20 or colder night.

Yeap. I'm really jealous (no sarcasm intended) of all the winter storms I see from the European news. Each time I look at winter tires on my car and then on outside thermometer (which is constantly displaying some nonsense around 40-50F) I start to feel very sad...

Very little winter weather here either. So far we've had only one snowfall that amounted to anything, and I was still brewing out on the patio at the end of December.

Forget snowblowers... a couple of days ago I was dealing with an issue on my sump pump!

It's still fall here. I was out doing errands without my coat yesterday. It was 75F in my garage, heated only by the sun and its proximity to my house. We have no snow on the ground.

Well, FWIW we did have to put up with three straight weeks of 40s/50s and dry brown before this storm finally came through. It's been a while since I recall driving around in January with the windows down, but this year I did it a couple days during the lunch hour.

Virginia has been much the same. We had some sleet two days ago, but it didn't even make the grass white and melted before midnight. That's as close as we've come to winter here.

Global warming.

(Seriously. Higher average temperatures means more energy in the system, which means more volatility, which means unseasonable and otherwise chaotic weather - of all types.)

I agree that could be the cause... but until it happens several years in a row, we can't tell whether it is indeed a real trend or just a statistical fluke.

I'll stop here, in an attempt not to push this thread over the R&P line...

It's been very hot here, getting into the 80s every day. And it's been that way for weeks.

This is the hottest winter I have ever seen. It does not bode well for hurricane season. The Gulf is going to be boiling by July.

It does not bode well for my homebrewing either! With winter temps well above normal this year the ground isn't going to get as cold, and I will probably need to crank the AC come spring if I want to keep the basement at reasonable fermentation temperatures.

I'd argue that we have been seeing it, in varying forms, for at least the past couple of years - the "Snowpocalypse" on the US east coast being the first time I paid conscious attention to it as a significant factor. Admittedly, however, that's not remotely concrete yet; at best, it's anecdotal evidence, until someone does a comprehensive study of the subject.

Yeah... I wasn't even sure it was a good idea to make the comment in the first place, but in the end I went ahead with it.

I'd actually be interested in discussing the question in something resembling a calm and rational fashion, but I don't 'subscribe' to the R&P forum, because I know many of the topics discussed there would get me hot under the collar and emotionally stressed with no real benefit - and I'd have a hard time keeping out of them if I actually had the ability to drop in and look at them on a whim. So there's probably no good place for it.

Today in DC it felt like a cool summer day. Beautiful, but a bit lame for the beginning of March, especially considering the formidable winters we've had here the last couple of years.
